ASD KIDS TRUST
We are a hands-on, professionally based service. We do not run a reception/administration service. All contact is directly to the consultant/service provider, via email. We do have funding for specific programmes, these are all listed on the website. We are a group of like minded families and professionals, we do not have government funding. Providing services is solely dependant on community funding, programmes can change term to term based on that funding.
For general information about Autism in NZ refer to www.altogetherautism.org.nz who are the official NZ government-funded information service providers.
For family information refer to our Directory, however families with persons with ASD are usually a great wealth of practical information! Get involved and meet other independent families.
ASD Kids Trust was established in 2004 - it was established to meet the need for professionals and families to be able to fundraise for individual persons or small groups with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
ASD Kids Trust recognises that ASD is varied and so are the treatment/educational paths for families and individuals on the spectrum. We believe that in an underfunded area every child/teenager and adult has the right to treatments/education methods of their families choosing - no size fits all and ASD is still largely unknown.
In 2011 ASD has only a few scientifically valid interventions, most of the field is still unknown, families and professionals recognise that most professionals/methods re ASD are still to be recognised via enough scientific data - hence many families rely on common sense when it comes to health and education - in many cases ASD simply needs one-on-one learning and health care so that the person with ASD can reach their potential. Sometimes its a case of being able to offer more - families who engage with us are a wealth of information re Individualised Funding working for them.
Many of the services here were established and delivered via Autism House(closed 2009 - as part of Autism NZ, then closed as an independent group in mid 2010).
ASD Kids Trust works in with many organisations and professionals - our Trust Deed is all about enabling families to make good independent decisions for their loved ones with ASD and living a full community life as per the Disability Act.
ASD Trust is recognised as a Charity and was registered in 2008 when the Charities Commission was established.
