ASD Kids Trust Beliefs and Purpose
We believe all persons with ASD have a right to access their community in line with the New Zealand Disability Act.
We believe knowledge is empowering to families.
We believe families have a right to know about different programs, philosophies and avenues for treatment, ranging from traditional methods and evidence-based practices to what may be viewed as "emerging thought" or experimental design or methodology.
We believe that with choice, comes responsibility. Question, investigate and evaluate treatment options carefully and thoroughly. Weigh risks and benefits as they pertain to your child and family. What is right for others may be completely inappropriate for you. Autism treatments is still largely an unknown field.
We believe in the ability, rather than the disability, of individuals with ASD.
We believe many families are best served by direct Individualised Funding and advocate for this across all tax funded government departments, as it relates to those with ASD and their families.
We believe our understanding of ASDs and people with ASD is in its infancy. As our knowledge evolves over time, most knowledge can be sourced by being involved with International organisations that hold similar beliefs.
ASD Kids Trust is first and foremost a group of families and professionals that believe in Healthy living and full participation in family life and community - when this is not seen as possible we question and evolve new ways for this to happen.
